Animated Star Trek Coming To DVD
BRAIN: Remember this? The Original Series cast all came back together to voice a Star Trek cartoon in the 70's and it's coming to DVD on November 21. I used to catch these on the Sci-Fi Channel when I worked third shift.

R.I.P. Alex Toth
BRAIN: Sad news. Alex Toth has passed away. If you are a fan of Hanna Barbera super heroes like I am, than you are very familiar with his great work. His work is THE look for Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, Birdman, Superfriends, Herculoids, Fantastic Four and a bunch of others. He has also worked for most of the major comic publishers in the 60's and 70's including DC, Marvel and Dell. I would really like a book to come out showcasing his art.

X3 at midnight.
BRAIN: Went to see X3 at midnight on opening day with a bunch of friends. I was a little scared with a new director taking over and the crazy stories I had been reading about some bizarre decisions he had been making. The third X-Men movie managed to keep the same feel and emotions as the previous and I have to say I liked it. Time will tell where it lands in the order of favorites from this franchise but as of right now, I still like 2 better. They really didn't pull many punches on this one though, I wonder what the final kill count was. Damn. I give it a B+. Go see it.

I Just Donated $8.50 To Scientology
BRAIN: OK. My first summer blockbuster was M:i:III. I will declare it was my favorite of the three, but that's kind of like saying you like getting poked in the eye instead of hit in the nuts. This time Tom Cruise strikes a pose accross at least three continents to save his wife. He did a good job, but you never forget you are watching Tom Cruise acting in a movie. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a really good villain but didn't really have enough screen time. I think he would be a great bad guy in a future Bond movie. There were other movies playing in the theater that I know would have been better, but this movie was just what I need; loud action.

BRAIN: This guy is amazing! Here are some of my favorites.

Mego Museum
BRAIN: There is an online Mego Museum that is really fun to brows and comes complete with trading cards. To refresh your memory, Mego made the super hero dolls in the 70's that had the cloth outfits...
My Man Humberto Ramos
BRAIN: I'm really happy to see Humberto Ramos back on a Marvel monthly with Wolverine. He has been a favorite of mine for a while with his work on Spider-man. A lot of the over-the-top cartoony looking illustration turns me off after awhile, but not Humberto's. I can't get enough of his. I met him two or three summers ago at Wizardcon in Chicago and had him draw me a quick sketch. I sort of stalked him until I saw he had a free couple of seconds. He drew an ape because I had a Planet of the Apes shirt on and the sketch really sucked. Probably because I was waiting for him to come out of the bathroom when I hit him up...

Next Gen
ZED: I've been combing sites looking for new videogame info now that E3 is underway and here are some highlights: PS3 is going to cost 600 bucks, unless you are dumb and buy the stripped down version for 100 bucks cheaper. The PS3 controller is the same as the ps2, but it's wireless, minus the rumble plus a gyroscopic motion sensor (you can tilt the controller to tilt your plane etc.). So if you buy the HD DVD adapter for the xbox 360 price difference is a wash.
There is a whole bunch of new trailers on xbox live and they announced all kinds of xbox live arcade games coming including contra and sonic and galaga and more cool retro. Lots of amazing next gen trailers and screens—two games I'm excited about are Gears of War and Too Human, what they are doing visually in the second round of x360 games is amazing.
Want To Hear A Bizarre Star Wars Record?
BRAIN: Here is a record from 1977. These guys jumped on the Star Wars bandwagon and tried to make a serious record. The result is one of the funniest records you will ever hear. Cheese factor 10. They are The Rebel Force Band and the record is Living In These Star Wars. Not sure what backwards "s" is about, but I'm thinking they were maybe going for a "z" as in Star Warz. Thanks to Mike for letting me rip his record.

Original Trilogy Hyped In September
BRAIN: A bunch of stuff is coming out for the Original Trilogy in September. Among them are DVDs of the original three Star Wars movies that include the fucked-with and the non-fucked-with versions. Great. When I get these I can put them on the shelf by my VHS, VHS Widescreen, VHS Special Editions and my DVD Special Editions. Lucas not only created one of the coolest worlds in Science Fiction, he created a way to absolutely milk his fans for every cent they have. Oh, and don't forget they are available for a limited time... (sure George, wink, wink). I could get really pissed here buy why? I'm the dumbass that keeps buying every incantation he can dream up. At the same time these come out, there are also Original Trilogy Legos, action figures and video games too.
Free Comic Book Day Tomorrow
BRAIN: Grab a kid and bring them to a comic book store tomorrow. Free comics. There is a store locator on the site that works by entering your zip code.
There is supposed to be a free HeroClix Wolverine too...
Side note after the fact - Hot Comics in Richfield was charging for the FREE Hero Clix. Another reason to avoid that place...

Hollywood To Kill Another Classic
BRAIN: Will Smith as signed up to bastardize the classic Omega Man movie made famous by Charlton Heston. Is nothing sacred? Nothing has been filmed yet, maybe nothing has even been written yet, and I can guarantee this will suck. Maybe I'm just partial to Charlton because I always thought he looked like my dad.
Green Machine Gets A Face-Lift
BRAIN: It looks like my Green Machine from the 70's has gotten a face lift. I loved this thing. My only regret was that I didn't use it to it's potential. The road I lived on was a pretty steep hill and our driveway was gravel. The only real place to utilize it's superb handling was doing circles in the garage.
ZED: KICK ASS, I'M... I MEAN, MY SON IS GETTING ONE!

The Best Show Nobody Talks About
BRAIN: Captain Scarlet is a show by puppet-master Gary Anderson. It's not as famous as some of his other shows like Thunderbirds or Stingray, but it is my favorite. There is a DVD set out that has all the episodes. It is great and everyone should get it.
The premises is this: "A misunderstanding on Mars provokes an alien race called the Mysterons to declare a war of nerves on Earth. Throughout the series, they continually make terrorist threats and attempt to follow through with their ability to create obedient duplicates of anyone they kill. Their key opponent is the international intelligence organization, Spectrum, whose agents are code-named according to various colours. Their top agent in this war is Captain Scarlet, an agent who was subjected to the duplication process, but was still alive at the time. As a result, his clone was able to shake off the Mysterons' control, but leaving being him indestructible and able to survive any wound. Together with his partners, Captain Blue and Spectrum's fighter squadron, The Angels, the now immortal Captain Scarlet must constantly struggle to thwart the Mysterons' ever present threats."
